Sands Cares Ambassadors Take Eco-Conscious Nature Walk in Coloane

(Macao, June 7, 2018) – A group of around 30 Sands Cares Ambassadors went on an eco-conscious nature walk in Coloane Sunday, cleaning up debris along the coast and mountain.

As they walked the Long Chao Kok Coastal Trail, they also learned about the geological landscape of Macao and the risks posed by non-native invasive species, which have the potential to harm the environment after being introduced from foreign habitats.

They were led by a guide from Green Future, a local nongovernmental organisation dedicated to enhancing communities’ awareness of environmental issues and promoting a greener living environment.

“I really enjoyed this nature walk,” said one of the participants. “Our natural environment is a precious resource, especially for a place like Macao, which is mostly urban. I’m glad I was able to learn more about Macao’s landscape and that I had a chance to help make it a little greener.”

The event was in support of the U.N.’s World Environment Day, which occurs annually on June 5 to encourage global awareness and action for the protection of the environment. Sands China’s support of World Environment day also includes a June 5-7 Clean Plate Challenge, which encourages team members to minimize food waste.

Founded in August 2009, the Sands Cares Ambassador programme aims to give Sands China employees an opportunity to serve the local community by organising community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao. With a current membership of more than 1,600 volunteers from across all Sands China properties – Sands® Macao, The Venetian® Macao, The Plaza® Macao, Sands® Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao – Sands Cares Ambassadors contributed close to 12,000 hours of voluntary community service in more than 50 activities in 2017. Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like Sunday’s event with Green Future as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement, and is one of the many ways the company’s team of volunteers expresses its care for the Macao community.

Sands China’s community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
